The Pebbly Path Crochet Washcloth
Welcome to The Restful Stitch. Let’s crochet a beautiful washcloth with this free pattern!
Today we are picturing a peaceful summer meadow. A cottage with a pebbly path leading through a serenade of birdsong to the front door. You are going to stop there and sit on the porch in a wooden rocking chair. Here you will pick up your cotton yarn and a hook and crochet this washcloth with a gentle breeze fluttering across your cheek.
I just kept picturing footsteps and pebbles and quiet when I looked at this finished crochet washcloth. It looks great draped over my sink, almost too good to use. Thankfully, washcloths work up so quickly that I can make as many as I want. Crocheted cotton washcloths are truly my favorite washcloths to use.

So now that the atmosphere is set, let’s get started.
Materials
- Yarn – Knit Picks Dishie in Lilac Mist – 133y/70g worsted weight (#4) cotton yarn
- Crochet Hook – US H/8 (5mm)
- Darning needle
- Scissors
Abbreviations & Stitches
- ch – chain
- sc – single crochet
- st(s) – stitch(es)
- 3hdc-puff -3 half double crochet puff stitch (*yo, insert hook in stitch indicated, yo, pull up a loop. Repeat from * 2 more times. Yo, pull through all 7 loops.)
Gauge
14 sts and 18 rows = 4″ by 4″ in Row 3 repeat.
Notes
- This pattern is worked by repeating row 3.
- Using the above gauge it should be a square when finished with the last row of sc.
- If your gauge is different, just repeat row 3 until you are about a 1/4″ from being a square and then work the last row of sc.
- Ch 1 does not count as a stitch
Pattern – Pebbly Path Crochet Washcloth
US Terms
Ch 29
Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook and each ch across. (28sc)
Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across. (28sc)
Row 3: Ch 1, turn. Ch 1, turn. Sc in first st, 3hdc-puff in the st below the next st. So you will be working into the stitch in row 1 and pulling up your loops to the height of row 3. *Sc in next 3 st, 3hdc-puff in the st below the next st*. Repeat from * to * to last 2 sts. Sc in last 2 sts.
Row 4-33: Repeat row 3.
Row 34: Ch 1, turn. Sc in each st across. (28sc)
Fasten off and weave in ends. I recommend wet or steam blocking.
