Crochet Wind Spinner | Free Pattern
The Blooming Spirals Crochet Wind Spinner (DIY home decor for spring, summer and Mother’s Day!)
This is a simple, but gorgeous crochet wind spinner pattern. You could work it up in a couple hours for a lovely, handmade gift. I love the way it looks like flowers with full petals, spiraling down. Sunlight and a gentle breeze give this beauty life, hanging from your porch, balcony or a tree. For a sweet Mother’s Day gift, make this crochet winder spinner in your mother, grandmother or friend’s favorite colors.
This easy pattern is only 3 rows. Increases in each row give it the spiral effect. If you are an absolute beginner, please refer to my How To Crochet Tutorial. It uses single crochets, 2 double crochet and 3 double crochet cluster stitches. I’ve provided the instructions for the cluster stitches below or you can visit my previous tutorials by clicking the links.

Materials
You can use any color combinations and any yarn that you like for this crochet wind spinner pattern. I am using a worsted weight acrylic yarn, but I think a cotton would be wonderful for its sturdiness. Be sure to go down a step from the recommended hook size to keep the stitches tight. Feel free to use the same color for multiple rows as you so desire. I can’t wait to see what unique color combinations you come up with. Please share pics on social media and tag me!
- Yarn – any worsted weight #4 yarn. In this tutorial I used Loops and Threads-soft classic in the colors sage, light coral, light yellow, and butter. The picture above uses the colors sage, butter, and raspberry.
- Hook size US H-8(5 mm)
- Darning needle
- Scissors
- Beads are optional
Abbreviations & Stitches
- ch – chain
- ch-sp – chain space
- hdc – half double crochet
- sc – single crochet
- ss – slip stitch
- st(s) – stitch(es)
- 2dc-CL – 2 double crochet cluster – *Yarn over, insert hook in indicated st, yarn over, pull through st. Yarn over pull through 2 loops. Repeat from *. Yarn over and pull through all loops on hook.
- 3dc-CL – 3 double crochet cluster -*Yarn over, insert hook in indicated st, yarn over, pull through st. Yarn over pull through 2 loops. Repeat from *. Yarn over and pull through all loops on hook.
Crochet Wind Spinner Pattern
Ch 70 with color A (sage). Fasten off.
Row 1
Attach color B (light coral) with ss to first ch. Ch 1, Hdc in same ch and each ch across. Finish last hdc with color C (light yellow).
Row 2
With color C, ch 3, turn. (Dc, ch1, 2dc-CL) in first st. (ch1, 2dc-CL)x2 in each st across. Finish last st with color D (butter), leaving a long tail with color D to hang the wind spinner.
Row 3
With color D, ch 1, turnd. Sc in first st. *(Ch 1, 3dc-CL) in ch-sp, (ch1, sc) in next st. Repeat from * across.
Finishing the Crochet Wind Spinner
Fasten off.
Use the long tail of color D to tie a loop to hang the wind spinner from. I slipped a wooden bead on and then folded the yarn, tied a knot and tucked the end into the bead to hide it. You can also omit the bead, tie the knot closer and weave in the end. Just be sure to leave the strand where it is directly attached to the wind spinner so that it can spin freely.
Weave in all ends
Tassle
To create the tassel cut 15 to 20 strands of yarn about 12 inches long. I used a mix of the colors of the wind spinner. Gather the strands together and fold the yarn in half. Tie a 12 inch length of yarn around the middle securely.
Tie another 12 inch length around the bundle about 1/2 inch below to top tie. Knot it securely and tuck in the ends to blend in with the tassel. Cut the ends of the tassel to an even length.
Tie the tassel to the bottom of the wind spinner and weave in ends. If you’d like, you can add a bead to the tassel before tying as I did.
Your beautiful crochet wind spinner is now complete!
